Profits at mainland listed Chinese companies grew at their fastest pace since 2022 during the first half of the year. Combined earnings across 5,557 businesses rose 19.5 percent from the same period a year earlier.
The differences between sectors are striking. Profits at companies on the technology focused STAR Market increased more than fourfold, while businesses on the similar ChiNext board recorded growth of 33 percent.
Demand for artificial intelligence, chips and advanced manufacturing is supporting the shift. Chinese platforms are expanding their use of domestic processors, while memory and other hardware producers are adding capacity.
Fast technology growth also exposes weaker results in traditional industries. The figures do not show an even recovery across the entire economy, but rather a movement of capital and profits toward new industrial engines.
