Chinese regulators have approved several medical products using brain signals this year. These are not mind reading machines, but devices that record electrical activity and support doctors during assessment or rehabilitation.
The newly approved products include an electrode cap made by Tiankai Suishi. The system is designed to assist the assessment of cognitive function and received clearance from China's medical device regulator on August 19.
The company also develops tools for the early identification of cognitive impairment, while another product intended to support depression diagnosis is still awaiting approval. Each device has a specific purpose and should not be confused with treatment.
Brain computer interfaces may help patients control digital equipment or allow clinicians to monitor nervous system functions. Their value still depends on clinical evidence, secure handling of sensitive data and medical supervision.
