China's cyberspace administration has announced a broad action against harmful and low quality material, including content created with artificial intelligence. About 5.61 million items were removed across more than 2,400 websites and apps.
Authorities also acted against 49,000 accounts. The campaign targeted false news, impersonation, violent or explicit material and content considered harmful to minors.
Major short video, messaging and lifestyle platforms were among those covered. Generative tools can produce large volumes of repetitive or misleading material cheaply, increasing the need for clear provenance and effective review.
Large scale removal addresses the visible output, but clear rules and meaningful appeals matter as well. Platforms need to distinguish deceptive material from legitimate creation that uses artificial intelligence transparently.
