Xiaomi has introduced the 18 Fold with a new medium sized folding format. Its outer display measures 5.38 inches, while the opened device provides a 7.58 inch inner screen.
The phone has a horizontal camera module and is scheduled for release on September 7. Xiaomi links it with the Xring O3 chip, HyperOS 4 and locally operated features based on the MiMo model.
A smaller outer screen may improve one handed use, while the inner panel creates space for reading and several windows. The usual compromises include greater thickness, a more complex hinge and a higher price.
The new size expands the choice between conventional phones and the largest foldables. Battery life, display durability and software support for the unusual aspect ratio will determine its practical value.
