Chinese short video creators are facing a scam sometimes described as account striking. Attackers submit coordinated reports alleging platform violations and then demand money from the creator to stop the pressure.
The scheme exploits automated moderation and a creator's fear of losing income or an audience. Even unfounded complaints can temporarily reduce reach, freeze features or force the account owner through a difficult appeal.
Paying a ransom may not solve the problem and can encourage further attempts. A safer response is to preserve messages and payment demands, use the official appeal channel and report the case to the platform or police.
The tactic exposes a weakness in systems that process enormous volumes of reports quickly. Platforms need better ways to detect coordinated complaints while keeping legitimate reporting of harmful material accessible.
