Sam's Club accelerates in China after passing 10.7 million members
Membership warehouse retailer Sam's Club has opened its sixth Beijing location and continues to accelerate its expansion in China. It reported 10.7 million paying members at the end of June, making the country one of its most important markets.
The company plans to open thirteen stores during the year and reach a total of 76 locations. Standard annual membership costs 260 yuan, while the higher tier is priced at 680 yuan.
The model is built around large packs, a more limited selection and products available only to members. In China it benefits from household demand for quality, imported goods and convenient shopping for an entire family.
Rapid expansion also increases pressure on logistics and consistent availability. A new store succeeds only when prices, popular products and dependable delivery justify the membership fee.
